Decision to End Hosting the Office of Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener in Nay Pyi Taw

The office of Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Myanmar was opened in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 17 December 2018. Myanmar has steadfastly opposed the mandates emanated from the country-specific resolutions. However, Myanmar extended its cooperation to Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener on the case by case basis and hosted her office in Nay Pyi Taw as a gesture of cooperation with the United Nations.

It is learnt from the United Nations’ press release on 25 October 2021 that the United Nations Secretary-General announced the appointment of his new Special Envoy on Myanmar who succeeds Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener. It is, therefore, learnt from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that since the activities of Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener have concluded, the Ministry informed the UN side of its decision to end hosting her office in Myanmar on 20 December 2021.
