Terrorists of Insurgents Launch Mine Attack against Railway Segment between Thein Seik Station and Don Wun Station in Thaton Township on the Bago-Mawlamyine Railway Line

On 26 September, terrorist of insurgent group launched a mine attack against the railway segment between milepost 121/20-21 on the Bago-Mawlamyine railway line, located between Thein Seik Station and Don Wun Station in Thaton Township, Mon State. The explosion damaged the railway, and the segment between Thein Seik and Don Wun was temporarily closed on 27 September.

During the mine attack, the eastern railway track was severed at one location for about 1.5 feet, and a rail plate about 1.5 feet long was broken off at another spot approximately 3 feet away. Myanmar Railways staff began repair work to resume the line as quickly as possible. The Thein Seik-Don Wun railway segment was resumed at 11:35 AM on 27 September. Train services have now returned to nomalcy. Due to this mine explosion, Down Train No. 82 with 401 passengers, which departed on time from Mawlamyine, stopped and waited at Thaton Station, causing a delay of approximately 45 minutes for the passengers.

Since 1st February 2021, insurgents and terrorist have launched 82 IED attacks on railroad and in the area of stations in Myanmar’s railway network, blown up 178 railway bridges and station yards, and set fire to stations and staff housings for 16 times. The Government is launching projects to upgrade railway infrastructure and transport services for convenient public travel and goods transportation, it is reported.
