Cargo Train Derails on Bago-Mawlamyine Railway between Theinseik and Donwun Stations in Thaton Township after Terrorists’ Mine Attack

On 25 May, No.687 Up-train, carrying gravel along Thebyugon-Kali route on Bago-Mawlamyine Railway, was blasted by terrorists when it reached the milepost of 123/23-24 between Theinseik and Donwun Stations in Thaton Township, Mon state. The explosion made the locomotive, its mine cover compartment, crew room, and five coaches derailed.

Local authorities are conducting checks while the staff workers of Myanma Railways are striving for speedy repairs of rail section.

Since 1st of February 2021 until now, insurgents and terrorist in Myanmar have launched 82 IED attacks on railroad and in the area of stations in Myanmar’s railway network, blown up 176 railway bridges and station yards, and set fire to stations and staff housings for 16 times. Terrorists and insurgents are committing repeated acts of violence on state-owned locomotives, carriages, railroad, bridges, passengers and goods, endangering the lives of passengers who are traveling with trains, it is reported.
