Active Rescue Operations Conducted in Earthquake-struck Areas

Due to the powerful Mandalay earthquake that struck on 28 March 2025, rescue and relief operations are being carried out in the areas where roads, bridges, and buildings were damaged. Military personnel from various Regional Military Commands, members of the Myanmar Police Force, members of the Fire Services Department, rescue teams from foreign countries, departmental staffs, social assistance associations, and local residents are jointly providing assistance in real-time. The following efforts are underway from 23 to 29 April:

  • Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw, Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of Commander-in- Chief (Army) and officials visited the pagodas, monasteries, religious edifices and basic education schools in SagaingTown of Sagaing Region and encouraged the activities of clearing debris from collapsed buildings,supply of drinking water to victims of earthquake after the Tatmadaw purification factory purified Ayeyarwady river water, healthcare services by Malaysian medial team at the temporary hospital in Parami Ward and the arrangements being made at schools for students to study peacefully in the (2025-2026) academic year. They then coordinated the efforts of the officials.
  • Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of Commander-in- Chief (Army) and officialsvisited the pagodas, monasteries, religious edifices, schools, government state-owned buildings, privately-owned buildings and residential houses in Mandalay City of Mandalay Region and encouragedthe activities of clearing debris from collapsed buildings, cleaning-up activities. They visited the damaged and repaired buildings of Mandalay International Airport in Tada-U Township to observe the resumption of regular flight schedules. They also observed the process of returning items discovered during the removal of debris from the Sky Villa buildings to their respective owners at the temporary office of the Property Receiving/Transferring Team. Furthermore, they received and held cordial discussions with a Thai medical assistance and reconstruction engineering team led by Col. SuthawutNaksri regarding the provision of necessary aid for the damages and losses caused by the earthquake. Finally, they attended the ceremony where the MOTTAMA Foundation donated 400 units of temporary shelters worthy of 220 million Kyats to the Mandalay Region Government for earthquake-affected people.
  • Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Commander-in- Chief (Army) and officials visited the pagodas, monasteries, religious edifices, schools, government state-owned buildings, privately-owned buildings and residential houses in Kyaukse Town of Mandalay Region and encouraged the activities of clearing debris from collapsed buildings and cleaning-up activities.They also observed the clearing of dangerous buildings using machinery and medical treatment being provided byDr. Narutmon and the 39-member Thai military medical team (Team Thailand 2025 HDRD Mission in Myanmarto local residents) at the Sukone Monastery in Sukone Ward. They reviewed the installation of Modular Houses for earthquake-affected staff to reside in before the rainy season at the Kyaukse District General Administration Office and coordinated the efforts.

The well-wishers from various regions across the country have also been providing assistance to those carrying out rescue and relief operations and to the earthquake-affected people to ensure their food security. They have been donating food items, purified drinking water, household goods, and cash, it is reported.
