Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw and Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Kyi received Ms. Christine Arab, Regional Director of UN Women Asia and Pacific Office in Bangkok at the relevant ministries in Nay Pyi Taw on 3 March. In this regard:
- During the meeting with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, both sides candidly exchanged views on matters pertaining to the future programme of UN Women in Myanmar and explored ways to enhance cooperation between Myanmar and UN Women.
- During the meeting with the Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, they cordially exchanged views on matters of the ministry’s ongoing efforts, including livelihood training programmes for displaced persons in conflict-affected and disaster-prone areas, support provided to survivors of gender-based violence, and the establishment of One-Stop Women Support Centres (OSWSC) to offer integrated services for women affected by violence. They also exchanged views on the implementation of the National Action Plan on the Prevention and Response to Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and the signing of a Work Plan between the Department of Social Welfare and UN Women.
Also present were officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Director-General (Operations) of the Department of Social Welfare, relevant officials, and representatives from UN Women, reports say.
