On 25 February, a mine laid by a terrorist group exploded on the down- train line at milepost 107/10-9 between Kyauktaga and Peinzalok railway stations on the Yangon-Mandalay rail way in Kyauktaga Township, Bago Region. The explosion destroyed that rail line measuring about two feet at two points and damaged 10 concrete sleepers, resulting in temporary closure. Myanma Railways officials and workers replaced the two broken rail tracks and repaired it to resume the railway section as quickly as possible.
Since February 2021, terrorist and insurgents have launched: 80 IED attacks on railroad and in the area of stations in Myanmar’s railway network; 174 mine attacks against railway bridges/rail tracks; and 16 arson attacks over buildings of the stations and staff housings.
Terrorists and insurgents are committing repeatedly acts of violence on state-owned locomotives, carriages, railroads, bridges, passengers and freight, endangering the lives of passengers who are receiving train service and their safety. By contrast, the Government is launching projects to upgrade railway transport system for convenient public travel and freight transportation, it is reported.
