A Member of PDF Terrorist Group Return to the Legal Fold with Arms/Ammunition in Sagaing Region

A member of PDF terrorist group, Phoe Thagyan (aka) Tangu (son of U Chit Pe) of the squad commander from Battalion (9) of Kale district, returned to the legal fold on 23 February via a Tatmadaw outpost doing security duty in Kalewa Township of Sagaing Region. Together with him, he brought type-81 gun, 125 rounds, three magazines and a hand-grenade.

According to his statement:

  • He was a farmer who lived in Zee Sauk village of Kalewa Township. Then, he underwent the terrorist training at the old camp of PDF terrorist battalion (9) of Kale district from 4th February to 21 March 2023.
  • Following the completion of the terrorist training, he was tasked as a so-called second squad commander to watch the passing of naval vessels in Chindwin River. Then, he has served over two years at the rank of squad commander.
  • During his stay as a member of PDF terrorist group, he came to realize that PDF terrorist groups gain money by extortion against the public, bully the people at gun point and kill innocent civilians for no reason.
  • PDF leaders make arbitrary arrests and barbaric torture of civilians who cannot afford to pay a tribute to them. Again, they bully their subordinates and they never do as they say.
  • As they also committed sexual harassment against women, some ladies deserted the terrorist group as well as committed suicides.
  • The Tatmadaw warmly welcomed him and fulfill his needs in administration matters. Security measures are being taken to be safe for himself and his family.
  • His purpose of returning to the legal fold is to live peacefully with his family, disconnecting the terrorist group.

He conveys the message that those who wish to return to the legal fold can do so boldly as the government is warmly welcoming to them, reports say.
