Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Misinformation on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news in all-round sectors to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context:

• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel raided on the villages which are contiguous with Longlon and Yepyu of Taninthayi Region, forcing the local residents to flee. It was just a rumor. In reality, security personnel are carrying out security tasks to prevent infiltration and destructive acts of the terrorists.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that security personnel shelled Yepu village of Nyaung ShweTownship in Shan State (South), wrecking a house. It was just misinformation. In reality, security personnel have never launched any strikes against non-military targets of the villages and wards where locals reside.
• “BBC Burmese”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms alleging that security personnel launched an air strike against the vicinity of Taloat of Myin Gyan in Mandalay Region. It was just an allegation. In reality, terrorists launched drone attacks against the security forces doing security duty in the area, injuring civilians and damaging the lives as well as property of the people.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel torched Kyauk Lone village of Pauk Township in Magway Region, making arrest of one civilian. It was just a rumor. In reality, security personnel did not make any arbitrary arrests of locals. But, terrorists are torching villages which oppose them and killing local residents.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information via social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
