Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Maung Maung Aye Attends 1/2025 Work Coordination Meeting of Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Servants

The Central Body for Summoning People’s Military Servants held its 1/2025 work coordination meeting at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Defence on 28 January, with the attendance of SAC Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Defence General Maung Maung Aye, in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Body, together with Vice-Chairman of the Central Body Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin, union ministers, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chair and officials. Chief Ministers who are chairmen of region and state committees for summoning people’s military servants joined the meeting virtually.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Maung Maung Aye delivered remarks as follows:

  • False information regarding the summoning of people’s military servants is circulating among the public, and the weaknesses of ward, village, township and district levels are being pointed out by the individuals as well as to the media. Most of them exaggerate to mislead the people and defame the summoning procedures based on a few pieces of true information.
  • The relevant officials should take effective actions against those who commit destructive actions against the People Military Service Law, and there are also completed legal actions and ongoing actions since they were found guilty of destructive actions. Similarly, it needs to uncover and take action against misinformation, propaganda and false reports.
  • Moreover, the responsible officials should supervise the ward, village and township administrators who make direct communication with people to ensure proper communication, curb financial fraud, and work following the procedures.
  • The central body also reviews the applications for exemptions, reductions and postponement of military service.
  • Every citizen must defend the country, and arrangements should be made for eligible individuals by law to serve for a designated period.
  • The summoning of military servants is a long-term programme, so there must be systematic work procedures with good management systems.
  • It needs to summon the military servants correctly and systematically under the People’s Military Servant Law, bylaws, rules and regulations, and not to summon them by force.

Then, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Swa Lin clarified the following matters:

  • The summoning of people’s military servants in relevant areas should be conducted following the prescribed law, bylaws and procedures.
  • The relevant officials have to supervise the officials who are conducting the on-ground summoning procedures in townships, wards and villages.

Later, members of the central body, Nay Pyi Taw, Region/State committees’ chairmen and officials reported on the matters related to the summoning of military servants. After that, the Chair of the Central Body coordinated the requirements, it is reported.
