The Ministry of Defence of the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has promulgated the People’s Military Service bylaws with Notification No 2/2025 on 23 January 2025.
The bylaws are divided into 10 chapters, 59 articles, and 12 appendices. Chapter I covers the names and definitions of terms; Chapter II addresses the age and period for military service; Chapter III outlines the stages of formation and responsibilities of the Committee for Summoning People’s Military Servants; Chapter IV deals with the registration and enlistment of soldiers; and Chapter V outlines the application process for exemption from medical examination and military service, or for the reduction or postponement of the military service period to a separately specified time. Chapter VI addresses summonses, Chapter VII outlines the formation and duties of medical examination boards, Chapter VIII details the rights of people’s military servants, Chapter IX covers military mobilization, and Chapter X provides general information, it is reported.
