Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Inspects KMMTTC Project in Sittway

Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur, accompanied by Shri Sunil Mukundan, Managing Director of India Ports Global Ltd (IPGL), officials of the Embassy of India, Yangon and the Consulate- General of India, Sittway, visited the Sittway Port of the Government of India-assisted Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Corridor (KMMTTC) Project in Sittway of Rakhine state on 16-17 January.

The Sittway Port has handled more than 150 vessels, carrying cargoes of food, agriculture commodities, medicines, fuel, vehicles, construction materials, machinery and equipment, since its inauguration in May 2023. The ambassador also paid a call on the Rakhine State Chief Minister and discussed the matters related to bilateral development cooperation, capacity building and humanitarian assistance under the Rakhine state Development Programmes, meeting the local needs and priorities of the people of Rakhine state.

The two sides agreed that the Sittway Port, an India-Myanmar Friendship Project, will help strengthen coastal, regional and international connectivity, in coming years. The ambassador highlighted the importance of an early return to peace and stability, which would pave the way for exploiting the full potential of the KMMTTC project, it is reported.
