Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Misinformation on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context:

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel set fire to Ou Pyin Mae village near Shwe Settaw in Minbu Township, burning 36 houses to the ground. It was just a rumor. In reality, PDF terrorists have destroyed the villages who oppose them by using various means.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that security personnel have detained over 30 civilians from Kyauk Kar (North) village in Monywa of Sagaing Region and forced them to clear landmines, injuring five people. It was just misinformation. In reality, terrorists have blown up roads and bridges used for public purpose.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms alleging that security personnel launched a drone attack against Hti Sone village of Hsihseng Township in Pa’ O self-administered zone, destroying two houses and forcing the civilians to flee. It was just an allegation. In reality, security forces did not made such attacks. In contrast, PDF terrorists have launched mine attacks and arson attacks against villages, destroying public property.
  • “Myaelatt Athan Broadcasting”, an unofficial media, security personnel torched two villages in local administrative unit of Pint Tha, Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. It was just an accusation. In fact, subversive media have been creating a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw’s duty required for security measures in the township.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and individuals who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information via social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
