Authorities Arrest Members of Armed PDF Terrorist Group who Robbed "Dragon Palace" Jewellery Shop and "White Elephant" Money Transfer Business in Mandalay, Seize the Exhibit of robbed Gold Items, Cash, Weapons and Ammo

On December 26, 2024, an armed robbery case took place at the "Dragon Palace" jewellery shop in Chanaye Thazan Township, Mandalay Region. While the shop owner Daw Ommar Aye of 52 and six staff members were present, two unidentified men (currently under investigation) arrived there by motorcycle. They threatened the staff with a firearm and robbed various gold items (approximately 1 viss and 91 ticals of gold, valued at around 1,050.5 million kyats) and about 3 million kyats in cash.

On December 29, the offenders involved in the robbery, Moe Aung (aka) Aung Moe from Phawng Pyin Township and Kyaw Soe Lin (aka) Kyaw Gyi from Debayin Township, were apprehended. During their arrest, they were found in possession of one M-5 firearm, one magazine, one M-4 A1 Carbine firearm, three magazines, 83 rounds of various ammunition, one Click motorcycle, and approximately 1 viss and 40 ticals of gold items, along with 21.5 million kyats in cash obtained from the robbery.

According to confessions of the arrested offenders,  Aung Pyae Sone Lwin and Than Htike Tun (aka) Nga Nae were also apprehended at their homes, where a CANDA Wave 110 motorcycle and one Mini Owe were found, which were used during the robbery. Additionally, Tun Min Latt (aka) Tun Min who melted down gold items was arrested at his residence, along with the equipment used for melting the gold.

Continuing the investigation into the arrested offenders for other robberies and assaults, it was revealed that the four individuals had robbed a money transfer business named “White Elephant” in Maha Aungmye Township, on December 24, threatening with firearms and robbing 30 million kyats along with a MDY-16/4Q 1196 Ertiga vehicle. It was further disclosed that the vehicle obtained from the robbery was sold to an unidentified man for 15 million kyats.

The arrested offender, Moe Aung (aka) Aung Moe, was identified as a second leader of the armed PDF terrorist group from the village of Sapya Gyin in Debayin Township, Sagaing Region, and, while Kyaw Soe Lwin (aka) Kyaw Gyi was a member of the group. It was noted that the firearms used during the robberies were purchased from a PDF member named Ko Soe Gyi (currently under investigation). The two had traveled to Mandalay to buy more weapons and ammunition with the money obtained from their robberies of gold shops in Mandalay. It was revealed that they collaborated with Aung Pyae Sone Lwin and Than Htet Tun (aka) Nga Nae during these robberies. During the robbery of the “White Elephant” money transfer business and the "Dragon Palace" jewelry shop, Moe Aung (aka) Aung Moe was armed with a MA 5 firearm, while Kyaw Soe Lwin (aka) Kyaw Gyi carried an M-4 A1 firearm. Aung Pyae Sone Lwin and Than Htet Tun (aka) Nga Nae watched the situation from outside the shops.

During the incident, the five offenders of armed PDF terrorist group who committed armed robberies at the "Dragon Palace" jewellery shop and the “White Elephant” money transfer business were apprehended and they were found in possession of the exhitbit of gold items, cash, weapons, and ammunition used in the robberies. Authorities will continue to take harsh legal action against them in accordance with the law, reports say.
