Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win Visits People’s Republic of China

Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win and delegation members attended the bilateral meeting with the Chinese delegation led by H.E. Mr. Lei Haicho, Minister of Health of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China on 3 December.

During the meeting, they exchanged views and discussed matters related to enhancing healthcare cooperation between Myanmar and China as follows:

  • Discussions were made on matters pertaining to the special emphasis of the Heads of the two countries on the traditional medicine sector, the donation of medicines, and medical supplies and vaccines by the People’s Republic of China during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Next, the discussed further cooperation of Myanmar CDC and China CDC constructed in Nay Pyi Taw with the supports of the Chinese government, sending of Myanmar doctors and technicians to China for capacity building training aiming at promoting human resources in health sector.
  • Later, both sides cordially exchanged views on matters related to active participation of health sector in coming 75th anniversary of the establishment of Myanmar-China diplomatic relationships.

Union Health Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win and delegation members visited National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases at Fuwai Hospital in Beijing on 4 December. During the visit, officials from Fuwai Hospital gave explanations on the hospital’s work in treating cardiovascular diseases, conducting research and training programs, offering both short-term and long-term training programmes for international trainees, cooperation with Myanmar in the field of cardiovascular treatment, and hospital’s operations and activities. After hearing the explanations, Union Minister and party discussed on plans to continue collaboration between China and Myanmar in medical training programs and treatments.

The Fuwai Hospital is a large facility with over 1,500 beds, 15 catheterization labs, and 36 cardiac surgery rooms. Each year, the hospital performs around 20,000 cardiac surgeries and 50,000 cardiac catheterization operations, it is reported.
