Union Election Commission’s Statement

A total of 50 political parties among 90 parties for taking part in the multi-party Democracy General Election have applied for the right to continue and register as political parties up to 28 March 2023, which is the 60th day of the designated period, under Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law. Therefore, 50 political parties have applied for the right to continue as political parties and registration under Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, and 18 parties have applied for the permission to establish a political party under Section (3) of the Political Parties Registration Law, bringing the total to 68 political parties.

According to the verified response of the relevant ministries after scrutinizing application of the Public Contribute Students Party, it was found that the party is not to comply with the provisions of Section-6 of political parties’ registration law. The Union Election Commission rejected the application of the party for the continued establishment of a political party with the form-G of political parties’ registration by-law on 28 November 2024 under the decision of the UEC plenary meeting (2024/34).

The Union Election Commission announced that the Unity and Development Party- UADP, with its headquarters located at No. 26, Seinpan Street, ACE Housing, Thakayta Township, Yangon Region, has been allowed to register under Section 9 of the Political Parties Registration Law starting 2 December 2024.

Until 2nd of December, 55 parties out of 68 political parties have been approved to be continued and registered as political parties. At present, there are only 53 parties left as the registration of two parties was rejected, nine parties have been rejected for registration, one party has applied for establishment and three other parties have been rejected for establishment, reports say.
