Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than Attends World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in China

At the invitation of Chinese Minister of Education Mr. Hui Jing Fung, a Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than attended the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference, held in Tianjin from 20 to 22 November.

The Union Minister and party carried out the following activities:

  • On 20 November, the Myanmar delegation arrived at Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park and met the Principal of Guangxi Economic and Trade Vocational Institute. They discussed matters related to the Guangxi Vocational Institute including the submission of proposals for establishing a training school in Myanmar with the assistance of the Tianjin Government of China.
  • On 21 November, the Union minister and the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference. During the conference, the Union minister addressed the collaboration between industry and education sectors to meet the needs of the labour market.
  • Union Minister Dr Charlie Than attended a ministerial-level roundtable discussion, which focused on the collaboration between 13 ministries in Myanmar and the private sector to support the development of the TVET sector more broadly.
  • Next, the Union Minister attended and watched the finals and awards ceremony of the World Vocational College Level Skills Competition, where he presented an award to a group of vocational students from Myanmar who won third place.

The Union minister and delegation attended the closing ceremony of the conference held on 22 November and arrived back in Yangon in the evening, reports say.
