Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Misinformation on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Mandalay Free Press”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel launched a drone attack against a passenger bus in Kantbalu Township, killing one monk and four passengers. It was just fabrication. In reality, a PDF terrorist group launched a drone attack against “Ngwe Ou Mann” passenger bus, which left Katha for Mandalay, at the location near Pay Gyi village of Kantbalu Township. A bomb dropped from the drone exploded near the vehicle, killing a four-year old child and injuring four other passengers due to shrapnel.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that people in Min Hla and Okpho Townships are being forcibly detained for purpose of people’s military service. It was just misinformation. In reality, authorities do not make forced arrest of passers-by and they are taking measures for people’s military service in accordance with People’s Military Service Law.
  • “RFA Burmese”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel killed three female locals and torched nearly 200 houses in Hnawgon village of Pakokku Township. It was just a rumour. In reality, security personnel did not arrive at the village but PDF terrorists burned down the villages, which do not support them, and killed innocent civilians after forced arrests.
  •  “Myay Latt A Than”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms alleging that security force members set fire to over 100 houses in Kantbalu Township. It was totally fake news. In truth, security personnel joining hands with locals have taken security measures in the area in line with the rules and laws for the sake of peaceful living of local residents and removing terrorists’ hides-out.
  • “RFA Burmese”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that authorities have detained some 20 male passers-by in Oke Shin Pin town for the purpose of people’s military service. It was just an allegation. In reality, security personnel are making for public road safety and security checks for peace and stability in the region.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
