Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

• “Tachileik News Agency”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security forces entered and set fire to some villages in Zeegon. It was just fabrication. In reality, security forces just conduct necessary security operations. As such, terrorists committed arson attacks in some wards and villages that did not support them.

• “Mandalay Free Press”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that the security forces killed 26 local people and torched 500 houses, in addition to, taking local people as hostage in Butalin Township. It was just misinformation. In fact, these actions were only carried out by terrorists. The security forces are conducting necessary security operations in accordance with the rules and regulations, and no local people have been abducted.
• “Myanmar Pressphoto Agency”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security forces burnt down Nayyin village in Yesakyo Township for 2 consecutive days and took public property. It was just false information. In reality, the security forces did not go the village and the news is just a false report.  
• “Myay Latt A Than”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms alleging that there are arrests for serving in the people military service and those who are included in the lists for service paid huge amount of cash for cancellation. It was totally fake news. In truth, the security forces are conducting area security activities in accordance with the rules and regulations and there were no such actions.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
