A Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung arrived in New Delhi of India in the afternoon of 4 November, at the invitation of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). The Myanmar delegation attended the Constitution and Federalism Conference held between 5 and 6 November.
During the event, the Myanmar delegation made the following activities:
- In the morning of 5 November, Indian experts discussed the roles of the President and Governor under India’s Constitution and federal reorganization, during which Myanmar delegates asked the queries what they wanted to know.
- In the afternoon, the conference discussed the distribution of power and taxation by federal system. Following this, Myanmar delegates met with the 16th Finance Commission Team of India.
- In the morning of 6 November, discussions by Indian experts continued on regional experience of India and local self-government system (Panchayati Raj system), during which the delegates raised the questions.
- In the afternoon, discussions were made on the co-existing among the diverse language and others in a modern country, followed by the meeting between Myanmar delegation and Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities of India.
During the tour, the Myanmar delegation cordially exchanged views on the matters relating to India’s Constitution and federal system, and raised the questions and vice versa. The Myanmar delegation arrived back in Yangon on 7 November, it is reported.
