Signing Ceremony held for Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) under “Quick Impact Projects (QIP)” between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Republic of India

The signing ceremony for five Memoranda of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Republic of India under “Quick Impact Projects (QIP)” was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations in Nay Pyi Taw on 14 October 2024.

The ceremony was attended by Dr Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, deputy ministers from relevant ministries, senior officials and Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Ashish Sharma and representatives from the Embassy of India.

          In the ceremony, five memoranda of understanding, projects worth US$250,000, were signed by officials from relevant ministries and Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Ashish Sharma of the Embassy of India

  •  Signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the drying machine and building project for the development of the agricultural sector and the socio-economic development of farmers” to improve the livelihood of rice-growing communities.
  • Establishment of a knowledge bank for advanced agricultural research and education will be executed through the signing of a memorandum of understanding, allowing the access of numerical data and documents related to academic disciplines and research.
  • The memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the project to develop weaving and vocational education sector at Saungder Weaving and Vocational Institute in Amarapura Township of Mandalay Region will enable teachers at the Weaving and Vocational Training Schools to access study materials and learn technical subjects.
  • The memorandum of understanding for the project to construct a one storey building for girls' school in Mandalay Region will improve the living conditions of girls.
  • The memorandum of understanding for establishing an emergency management center in Yangon Region will enhance the national-level center for large-scale disaster management provide support as transportation centre in receiving international humanitarian aid in Yangon.

          A joint committee for project monitoring and evaluation will be accordingly formed to supervise the proposed projects. The QIP projects are being conducted under the assistance agreement signed between the two governments. Each project valued at USD 50,000. It is reported that similar projects were also carried out last year, and the QIP projects will continue to be coordinated with the Government of the Republic of India to support the socio-economic development of Myanmar.
