Passenger Train Services Resume in aftermath of Repairing Damaged Rail Tracks and Bridges on Yangon-Mandalay Rail Section in Recent Flash Floods

Heavy rainfalls triggered by Typhoon “Yagi” ravaged embarkments of some rail tracks and bridges on Yangon-Mandalay rail section in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and Mandalay Region. As a result, Yangon-Mandalay train services were temporarily suspended as of 11 September.

          Thanks to the systematic supervision of Myanmar Railways on the repairs of rail sections and bridges with the full strength of manpower and tools through effective logistics transportation plan:

  • No. 11 Up and No.12 Down trains for Yangon-Thazi and Thazi-Yangon route resumed services as of 21 September.
  • Likewise, No. 11/12 Up and Down Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon express trains and No.1/2 Up and Down Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon mail trains resumed services as of 3 October after the reopening of up rail track between Thaedaw and Thabyaytaung rail section. In addition to, cargo train services will return to normal on 4 October.

Myanma Railways operates passenger and cargo trains in respective rail sections for convenient public transportation and commodity flow. In this regard, the train services suspended due to flash floods in Yangon-Mandalay rail section will return to normal as previous schedules, it is reported.
