Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with departmental officials and town elders in Meiktila District at Kandaw Mingala Hall in Meiktila on 29 September to discuss about regional development measures. Also present at the meeting were Council Joint-Secretary General, Council members, Union ministers, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), members of Mandalay Region Government, district- and township-level departmental officials, administrators and town elders.
During the meeting, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister heard reports on accomplishment of the guidance given by the Senior General on his tour of Meiktila District, and regional facts of the district and implementation of development of the district presented by Meiktila District Administrator and Mandalay Region Chief Minister. Then, Union Ministers reported on supervision for utilization of farmlands in Meiktila District in accord with the prescribed rules, coordination to regrow marketable crops in the flood-affected acres of farmlands in the district, and fulfillment for education promotion in Meiktila District.
After hearing the reports, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister discussed as follows:
- Meiktila is a commercial hub in the centre of Myanmar, facilitated with universities and colleges in the education sector.
- As Meiktila possesses many sound foundations in education sector, it is necessary to encourage education sector.
- In doing so, all districts operate agriculture, livestock and industrial high schools to turn out human resources capable of operating agriculture, livestock and industrial production.
- It is necessary to apply modern technologies instead of traditional methods. By doing so, crop yields will improve and socioeconomic development can be achieved.
- It is necessary to encourage the enhancement of education sector so that regional development tasks and socioeconomic development can be realized.
- It can be seen that rice sufficiency is low in Meiktila District. Efforts must be made to meet per-acre yields and targeted yields. If efforts are made to boost per-acre yields, it will meet rice sufficiency and incomes of the district will increase.
- As Meiktila District produces cotton to some extent, efforts must be made with farsightedness for the development of cotton factories.
- If high quality textiles can be manufactured from cotton produced in the district, imports of cotton from other countries can be reduced and the surplus will be exported if local needs are enough.
- Agriculture and livestock breeding tasks can be carried out more effectively when they are implemented through the cooperative system and the government pledged to provide assistance for operating cooperative system. In connection with crop yields, the number of plants in each field must be met.
- Staff assigned duties in Meiktila and residents have to broaden their horizon to develop Meiktila District with collaborative efforts.
After that, the Senior General cordially greeted departmental officials and town elders at the meeting. Later, the Senior General and party proceeded to the site chosen for construction of a student assembly hall in Meiktila and left necessary guidance to officials.
