2nd Ceremony Held to Donate Cash from Well-Wishers for Undertaking Rescue, Relief and Rehabilitation Measures in Flood-affected Areas

A 2nd ceremony to accept cash donated by well-wishers for undertaking rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in flood-affected areas triggered by Typhoon “Yagi” in Myanmar took place at the City Hall in Nay Pyi Taw on 28 September, with the attendance of Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing who expressed thanks to the contributors.

During the ceremony, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and officials accepted cash donations from ministries, region and state governments and staff, as well as well-wishers at home and abroad, and returned certificates of honour.

After that, the Senior General expressed his appreciation for such contributions as follows:

  • The first cash donation amounted to more than K32.2 billion and today’s the second cash donation, more than K10 billion for rehabilitation measures in flood-battered areas.
  • Taking lessons from natural disasters struck in Myanmar, it is necessary to make preparations to minimize the damage in the future.
  • It is also necessary to take measures to choose lands for construction of public buildings including schools and hospitals and new urban areas for ensuring long-term durability by considering possible natural disasters.
  • The government pledged to fulfil the needs of damaged houses in flooding as much as it can. Moreover, it is necessary to be able to carry out rehabilitation tasks in a short period.
  • Suitable crops should be planted in the arable lands damaged by the recent natural disaster. Businesspersons at this event are requested to invest in agricultural tasks as much as they can, like necessary capital to be provided by the State.
  • The government is striving for the soonest opening of schools in flood-affected areas aiming to ensure that children’s education is not behind schedule.
  • The Government cannot do it alone, but only if all of us work together, will the country be able to achieve peace and development. Therefore, the donors are advised to work together in the tasks for development of the nation by participating in the areas they can work.

Also present were Chairman of National Disaster Management Committee SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, the SAC Joint-Secretary, SAC members, union ministers, union level dignitaries, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Nay Pyi Taw Command commander, deputy ministers, well-wishers, departmental officials of the concerned ministries and welfare organizations.
