Preparations Underway for Holding Multiparty Democratic General Election

Training Course No. 5/2024 on using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) was commenced at Union Election Commission on 23 September with an intent to cast the votes in the upcoming multiparty democratic general election through MEVM.

          During the event,

• The UEC observed three facts that occurred electoral frauds in 2020 general election such as duplicating the same ballot papers, printing more ballot papers and illegal voting in the polling stations of the wards and village-tracts. As such, arrangements are being made to cast the votes through software system by using MEVM aiming not to occur such voting frauds again.
• The voter lists of respective polling stations of wards and village-tracts can be easily collected in compiling CVLMS with the use of Admin DEO software, and further scrutinization will be made to prevent the voters in the lists for two or three.
• Casting the votes through MEVM can terminate the printing ballot papers, having beneficial not to occur voting frauds.

During the training, the lectures such as the structures of the MEVM, installation method, trial voting, distribution, installing and placing the machine on the day of election, counting the votes, compiling voter lists in line with the by-laws and packing of the machine will be delivered to the trainees. The training comprises of 21 trainees from Township Election Sub-Commissions in Yangon Region, it is reported.
