Repair Works of Rail Tracks and Bridges Underway for Resumption in Yangon-Mandalay Rail Segment

Heavy rainfalls have been caused by the remnants of Typhoon “Yagi”. Consequently, some embankments and bridges of Yangon-Mandalay rail section linking Nay Pyi Taw Council Area and Mandalay Region were eroded by flash floods, and rail services were suspended. Efforts are underway to resume suspended rail services and then, repair works for the water-eroded rail tracks between Tatkon and Thazi are completed since 18 September 2024. For the time being, a single-track railway can be used. Therefore, the trains which stopped temporarily at Thazi and Nyaung Yan stations were allowed to depart for Yangon. Additionally, four up-trains at Pyawbwe, Pyinmana and Yeni stations were able to depart for Thazi station.

A team led by Managing Director of Myanma Railway inspected the repairs of damaged rail sections and bridges between Thabyaytaung and Samone stations in Myittha Township of Mandalay Region, and the water-eroded embankments of the rail sections between Thazi and Hlinedat stations, Hlinedat and Phaya Ngar Hsu stations in Mandalay Region.

Myanma Railway is systematically supervising the repairs of rail segments and bridges with the full strength of manpower and tools through effective logistics transportation plans. It has managed to repair the damaged rail sections between Yangon-Mandalay Railway promptly for soonest resumption of rail services express and cargo between Yangon and Mandalay, it is reported.
