Heavy rains have been scattering across Myanmar due to remnants of Typhoon “Yagi” over the South China Sea and a depression over the Western Central and North West of the Bay of Bengal, causing flash floods in regions and states including Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. As such, foreign countries have been aiding humanitarian assistance for Myanmar’s flood relief. In this regard:
- On 18 September, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Shri Abhay Thakur handed over humanitarian assistance and disaster relief aid such as tents, waterproof canvases, commodities, household articles, cleaning tools, clothing, foodstuffs and medicines, 21 tonnes altogether carried by Indian Naval Vessel INS Satpura (F-48).
- On 19 September, a cargo flight loading USD 4.05 worth of 2.45 million doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine-OCV) donated by WHO arrived at the Yangon International Airport, aiming to contribute the tasks of response, prevention and control for severe cholera carried out by Ministry of Health. The concerned officials handed over the vaccines to Myanmar officials.
The vaccines will be administered in priority by targeted groups at schools, training centres, philanthropic homes, religious schools, orphanages, homes fpr aged people. Relief camps, markets, food booths, factories, industries, prisons, the crowded places where conditions are far from sanitary and getting purified drinking water in townships and wards where severe cholera broke out.
The Government has been conducting emergency response and rehabilitation tasks for flood victims under the policy of ‘Leave no one behind,’ and the arrived disaster relief aid will be sent to the flood-affected areas promptly, reports say.
