Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;    

• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that the Tatmadaw launched an air strike against Pyathark Gyi village of Taungtha Township, wrecking pagodas. It is just fabrication. In reality, the Tatmadaw is exercising considerable restraint in conducting counter-terrorism measures during its operations, targeting the hides-out the terrorists and insurgents through acting on the tip-off by the civilians.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, spread false information on social media platforms accusing that the youths under legal age in Okwin Township have been issued Citizenship Scrutiny Cards after lying about their age for the sake of conducting the 5th Batch of People’s Military Servant Training. It is just ground rumours. In reality, the 5th Batch of People’s Military Servant Training has been in progress and those who had completed the trainings are conscientiously doing national defence and security duty at the military units.
• “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, made fake news go viral on social media platforms alleging that security personnel doing security duty at the check point of Pandaing in Nyaung Don Township have recruited some young travellers who could not show the CSCs and recommendation letters for travel as new recruitments. It is just a baseless speculation. In reality, security personnel have been carrying out systematic security checks on travellers to prevent the acts of violence by terrorists in the township.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
