Heavy rains have been scattering across Myanmar due to remnants of Typhoon “Yagi” over the South China Sea and a depression over the Western Central and North West of the Bay of Bengal, causing flash floods in regions and states including Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. As such, foreign countries have been sending humanitarian assistance of relief supplies to the flood-affected areas. In this regard:
- On 17 September, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Shri Abhay Thakur handed over humanitarian assistance and disaster relief aid such as 1,000 mosquito nets, 3,000 food packages of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE), 500 sets of kitchen utensil, 1,000 solar lamps, two generators, 4,000 sets of hygiene kits, 15 tents, chlorine, pesticides, bleaching powder and medical supplies, totalling over 30 tonnes which were transported by Indian Air Force (IL-76) aircraft. Likewise, Indian Navy’s warcraft loading foodstuffs, clothing, medicines, tapaulins and tents docked at Thilawa port in Yangon in the evening of the same day.
- On 17 September, a cargo flight of the MAI airline carrying USD 337,148.95 worth of household equipment, kitchen utensils, tents for family, taupaulins, shelter repair kits, water purification machines and other emergency kits; and a cargo flight of the MNA airline loading 11 kinds of relief aid such as household equipment, hygiene kits, kitchen utensils, shelter repair kits, water buckets, taupaulins, mosquito nets and water purification machines through Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA) Warehouse in Thailand, provided by ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre), arrived at Yangon International Airport.
The Government has been conducting emergency response and rehabilitation measures for flood victims under the policy of “Leaving Noone Behind”, and the arrived disaster relief aid will be sent to the flood-affected areas promptly.
