Management for Fieldwork on Water Inflow into Dams and Status of Water Flow in Creeks due to Heavy Rain in Nay Pyi Taw, Union Territory

Union Ministers, deputy ministers and concerned officials have made management for fieldwork on water inflow into dams, the status of water flow in creeks, the wreckage of village-to-village connecting roads, bridges, water supply works for villages, the damage of power cables, the conditions of wrecked roads and bridges under repair works, the condition of basic education schools flooded and the provision of healthcare services due to heavy rain by Yagi Typhoon. They carried out the following activities on 16 September:

  • Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo inspected the status of collapse of retaining walls and damages of the approach to U-Yin Sin Thay Chaung bridge connecting to new residential ward for personnel from Pyi San Aung ward and the approach to Le Tha-Zee Gon bridge connecting to Zee Gon village of Pobba Thiri Township and Le Tha village of Zeyar Thiri Township. He then coordinated the efforts of the officials.
  • Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Myaing inspected the railway stations, yards, embankment of rail tracks and rail bridges wrecked by the erosion in Thazi-Shwe Nyaung rail segment and Shwe Nyaung-Aye Thayar- Paw Mu- Hti Thein-Taungyi rail segment. He then gave instructions to the officials to carry out repair works with the use of manpower and machineries under the standardized procedures for resumption of rail services the quickest. He added that it is necessary to build retaining walls in order, put conduits in the retaining walls, ensure flawless water flow without any obstruction and provide necessary materials by segment.
  • Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Lu Mon arrived at Mandalay Region and Shan State (South) where telecommunications failures occurred due to the natural disaster. He inspected the repair works in progress for restoration of telecommunications systems. He instructed the officials to: establish temporary fibre cables for the restoration of communications network; carry out plans for prevention of water inflow in it and keep confidential documents systematically.

          Along the area where whirlwind is occurring and across the country, there has been heavy flow of water in rivers and creeks and heavy water inflow into dams. Since it can be possibly natural disaster, officials of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department are closely monitoring. Then, they are making arrangements for public announcement about floods to locals and collaboration with relevant organizations to prevent floods in a timely manner, reports say.
