On 10 September 2024, U Shwe Win of 57, the owner of the “Chaung Chaung” Jewellery Shop in Chanmyathazi Township of Mandalay Region, was carrying goldwares and cash money into his car in order to go to his three "Chaung Chaung" Jewellery Shops in Mandalay. At that time, seven armed men (under identifying) arrived at the scene by a vehicle with the license plate 3J/8313 ADVAN. They robbed over 10 viss of gold and around K100 million in cash and fled the scene.
To apprehend the perpetrators in the above-mentioned incident, security forces formed a special investigation team to record evidence and investigate in the area. On 14 September, they managed to arrest one of the perpetrators involved in the robbery, U Khin Maung Soe of 40 from Kone Tan Ward, Patheingyi Township, at the frontage of the Shwe Pyi Thar Hotel in Chanmyathazi Township.
According to confession of the perpetrator Khin Maung Soe,
- The robbery was committed by seven offenders, including himself, namely Naing Min Wai (aka) Kala (aka) Kyaw Gyi, Kyaw Soe Min Tun (aka) Nyi Nyi Soe, Zin Ko Ko Kyaw (aka) Kayin Gyi, Aung Zaw Tun (aka) A Nge Kaung, Hlaing Htet Aung (aka) Taw Wek (aka) Wek Ka Lay, and Chan Tha (aka) Shun Htet Maung.
- Three more offenders were subsequently arrested at the GTM Hotel in Kyansit Mahiy Ward, Chanayethazan Township. They are Naing Min Wai (aka) Kala (aka) Kyaw Gyi of 27 from Thanpaya Gon village of Katha Township, Kyaw Soe Min Tun (aka) Nyi Nyi Soe of 46 from Kyar-O village of Padaung Township, and Zin Ko Ko Kyaw (aka) Kayin Gyi of 29 from Kyauk Phyu Gon village of Meiktila Township.
According to the confessions of the offenders,
- Some of the goldwares robbed during the robbery and the vehicle used in the robbery were kept at the house of the offender Aung Zaw Tun (aka) A Nge Kaung in Mekin Gon village, Patheingyi Township. Acting on a tip-off, authorities conducted a search and arrested Aung Zaw Tun (aka) A Nge Kaung of 21 on 14 September. Along with him, goldwares and the vehicle used in the robbery were confiscated.
- On 15 September, authorities seized one Glock pistol, one Kimber Custom pistol, 14 bullets that were used in the robbery, and goldwares from the house of the offender Khin Maung Soe. Moreover, Hlaing Htet Aung (aka) Taw Wek (aka) Wek Ka Lay of 25 from Mekin Gon village, Patheingyi Township, was also arrested at the Tagon Taing Tollplaza in Pyigyidagun Township.
In the incident, security forces joining hands together with responsible citizens who oppose criminal activities, managed to identify and arrest six offenders involved in the robbery, including Khin Maung Soe, along with the goldwares. Measures will be continued to take harsh legal action against the arrested offenders. Moreover, security forces are making further investigation to arrest a 26-year-old offender Chan Tha (aka) Shun Htet Maung (still at large) who was involved in the crime of robbery, it is reported.
