Floods occurred due to heavy rain across the country. Thus, rail services have temporarily been suspended in Yangon-Mandalay Segment and Thazi-Shwenyaung Segment since 11 September.
- Flood occurred in Shan Ywa Station yard of Thazi Township in Yangon-Mandalay Segment and in Shan Ywa-Pyawbwe Segment. Rail tracks were eroded at eight locations between Shan Ywa and Yamethin railway stations. Again, a pillar of the bridge no (529) was broken and its edge to Mandalay side was eroded. Flood also occurred on the rail tracks between Tatkon and Magyibin stations, between Magyibin-Nyaung Lont stations and in Nyaung Lont station yard. Moreover, rail track bank was broken between Yamethi-Ingyin Kan stations.
- In Thazi-Shwe Nyaung segment, rail track banks were eroded between Thazi-Hlaing Tat stations, between Hlaing Tat-Phaya Ngar Su station and between Phaya Ngasu and Yinmabin stations. Further, flood occurred on rail tracks at six locations between Kalaw-Myine Dike stations. Due to water spill from Hti Thein Lake between Hti Thein-Paw Mu stations, rail track bank collapsed and blocked railways.
Due to train schedule suspension, 118 passengers riding in 11th down train left from Yangon were transported by cars to Mandalay through Nay Pyi Taw Railway Station. When the tide was on the ebb, officials inspected thoroughly rail track banks and bridges and will continue maintenance works. Once the maintenance works are completed, rail services will resume as usual, it is reported.
