Authorities Provide Flood Victims with Foodstuffs in Regions and States

Authorities are carrying out rescue and relief measures for flood victims in a timely manner as heavy rainfall occurred in the villages and wards of regions and state from 8 to 14 September. In this regard:

  • Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo provided K4 million, robe, washing powder, toothpaste, toothbrush and donations at the areas affected by the flooding of the total of 55 monasteries, 22 monasteries of Pyinmana township and 33 monasteries and nunneries of Pobba Thiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw. They donated dhamma gifts and 270 buddha status and provided clothes and foodstuffs for 523 flood victims.
  • Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe provided K18.765 worth of foodstuffs, consumer goods, plastic bucket with cover, tarpaulin and rope, 300 clothes and 733 slippers for 7,837 flood victims at 8 temporary relief camps in Tatkon township, provided K6.645 million worth of 60 rice bag, cooking oil, consumer goods and foodstuffs for flood victims in Pyinmana township, provided K8.413 worth of 47 rice bag, cooking oil, consumer goods and foodstuffs for flood victims in Lewe township.
  • Union Minister for education Dr. Nyunt Pe along with officials provided cash assistance, purified drinking water and instance noodle for teachers who had faced flood at basic education middle school (branch) of Tha Htay Kone Village and flood victims at the relief camps
  • Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win along with officials provided Emergency Medical kits, Boiling tablets, medications for 4,525 flood victims at No.1 BEHS, opening relief camp and cash assistance for health staffs who are providing health care in Tatkon township.
  • Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win and party provided foodstuffs for 67,000 flood victims of 15,000 households in the villages and wards of Nay Pyi Taw and provided K4.79 million worth of food ration (rice) and instance noodle for temporary flood victims at the Pobba Thiri, Zayar Thiri and Pyinmana township.
  • Kayah State Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin and party provided rice, cooking oil and K 1.3 million for flood victims in Dawnoeku ward, Min Su ward, Namkut ward and Shansu ward.
  • Nay Pyi Taw Council Member Colonel Ye Moe and officials provided foodstuffs for flood victims in the villages and wards of Tatkon township.
  • Lt-Gen Phone Myat of Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command and other officials provided rice, cooking oil, salt, chickpea, fish paste and rice boxes for temporary flood victims at relief camp opening in Koe Khan Gyi hall for religious purpose, Kyi Taung Village and Hlay Khwin Taung religious edifices, Zayar Thiri Township.
  • Chairman of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Central executive members provided clothes, consumer goods, purified drinking water and foods for flood victims in Pobba Thiri Township.
  • Under the supervision of Nay Pyi Taw Council, heath care services have been provided and rice boxes, purified drinking water and other foodstuffs have also been provided to the temporary flood victims in relief camps.
  • Under the supervision of Nay Pyi Taw Council, the generous donators provided K55 million worth of rice, cooking oil, eggs, instance noodle, purified drinking water and medication, as well as 300 lunch boxes, 100 chickpea curries and clothing for 400 people through Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.

Flood occurred in 78 township/ wards and 531 villages of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Kayin State, Bago Region, Mandalay Region, Mon State, Shan State (South and East) and Ayeyarwady Region. As of the statistics, the flood claimed the lives of 114 people whereas 120 people have been missing. Concerned authorities are beefing at search and rescue tasks. During the flood, 25 bridges, 375 school, one monastery, 5 dam/reservoirs, 4 pagodas, 14 transformers, 456 light poles and 79,745 houses were wrecked.

Preparations are being stepped up to reduce the risk to lives and property of the people during the disaster and weather forecast information will be broadcasted in a timely manner, reports say.
