Vice-Chairman of State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win Inspects Damaged Parts due to Flash Floods in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area

Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win who is in the capacity of the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee and party inspected the damaged areas due to flash floods in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area on 14 September.

The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, the SAC Vice-Chairman Deputy Prime Minister and party made the following activities:

  • They viewed round damages by erosion, the inflow of water at villages, and inundation at public residences by car from Kintha junction to Nay Pyi Taw Council Area along the Yangon-Mandalay Road.
  • In the meeting with some 600 flood victims from Hsinthay, Pawsankhaw, Peinnabin, Zeebyupin and Hnandaw villages of Pyinmana Township at the Basic Education High School in Natthaye Village, the Vice-Senior General explained arrangements for food and accommodation, and rehabilitation, provided them with cash assistance and foodstuffs, and cordially greeted them.
  • The Vice-Senior General and party paid homage and donated offerings to the abbot of Chanmyae Yeiktha Monastery in Tatkon Township. The Vice-Senior General also met some 500 flood-stricken people from Shaukkone, Kyarthayai, Ponnama, Thayakone, Hsinthay and Peinnakone villages at the monastery and explained plans to provide aid for rehabilitation. Moreover, the Natural Disaster Management Committee will also provide necessary assistance.
  • The Vice-Senior General also conversed with more than 1,000 flood victims from Aungzeya, Anawratha, Bayintnaung, Narkone, Zeekone and Byaitinn villages at Tatkon BEHS No. 1 and spoke words of encouragement to the administration and medical teams. He then inspected the opening of a temporary clinic and stockpiling foodstuffs, clothes and relief supplies, and made instructions. Then, the Vice-Senior General provided the flood victims with cash assistance, medicines and foodstuffs.
  • On arrival at the flood-hit Tatkon Township General Hospital (100-bed), the Vice-Senior General inspected repair works and coordinated the requirements presented by the officials. He then comforted the patients and asked about the progress of their health in a cordial manner. Later, he provided foodstuffs to them.
  • The Vice-Senior General inspected the construction site of a temporarily bailey bridge and 220 feet and 180 feet of approach roads on both sides by the Directorate of Military Engineers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) for 400 feet of embankment of the Nawin Creek Bridge (Thayaaye) destroyed by erosion. He then left instructions on the long-term existence of the Bailey Bridge with resilience of natural disaster. The Bailey Bridge is scheduled to be finished as quickly as possible and it needs to prioritize the workplace safety.
  • He also inspected the repair work of the damaged bridge approach slab and approach road to the 360 feet long and 55 feet wide Thaikchaung Bridge, crossing Hsinthay Creek on the Pobbathiri circular road linking Zeyathiri and Pobbathiri Townships, due to the flash floods. He then coordinated the requirements.

Heavy rainfall of approximately 11 inches overnight in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area caused continuous inflow of water into Hsinthay and Ngalaik creeks and Paunglaung river, affecting five out of eight townships, resulting in damages and casualties. Repair works of the damaged roads and bridges due to the flash floods are underway in a timely manner. Therefore, 82 relief camps have been opened in relevant townships/villages. Moreover, military personnel, Myanmar Police Force members, fire-fighters, departmental organizations, and philanthropic associations are actively engaged in rescue and rehabilitation efforts. At present, relief and rescue tasks, supply and other logistics operations are being conducted in Tatkon and Pyinmana Townships via inter-district roads to avoid delays, it is reported.
