Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo Attends 9th Eastern Economic Forum in the Russian Federation

At the invitation of the Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee Mr. Anton Kobyakov, the Myanmar delegation led by SAC Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo left Yangon for Russian Federation by air on 1 September to attend the 9th Eastern Economic Forum which was held in Vladivostok, Russian Federation, from 3 to 6 September.

The Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied by Union Ministers from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Ministry of Electric Power, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism as well as the Deputy Minister for Information and various other ministerial personnel.

The Eastern Forum is held each year since 2015 aiming to strengthen ties between the Russian Federation and global investment communities, and discuss and evaluate the economic prospects of the Russian Far East, investment opportunities and business conditions within advanced special economic zones. During the forum, Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin delivered the key note speech, saying to promote energy supply and transport infrastructure, ensure power supply to uplift the industrial sector and living standard, and upgrade transport networks such as the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

The Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister made the following activities during their tour as follows:

  • On 3 September, the Myanmar delegation met with Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Mr. Sholban Valerievich Kara-ool, focusing the preparations for Myanmar’s upcoming elections and promotion of tourist arrival between the two countries.
  • On 4 September, the Myanmar delegation met with Russian Economic Development Minister Mr. Maxim Reshetnikov, discussing the ongoing work plans after the fourth meeting of the Inter-Governmental Russian Myanmar Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, progress in Myanmar-Russia economic cooperation and implementation of the roadmap for cooperation between the two countries.
  • Next, they attended a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signing ceremony for the construction of a foliar spray factory in Myanmar, marking a significant agricultural collaboration between Russia and Myanmar.
  • On 6 September, the Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo observed the Primorsky Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture under the Federal Scientific Centre of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Far East.

The Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister arrived back in Myanmar by air on 8 September, and they were welcomed by the officials at Yangon International Airport.

  • During the 9th Eastern Economic Forum, discussions were made on the preparations for Myanmar’s upcoming elections, promotion of tourist arrival between the two countries, ongoing work plans after the fourth meeting of the Inter-Governmental Russian Myanmar Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and implementation of the roadmap for cooperation between the two countries.
  • The Myanmar delegation observed the Primorsky Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture under the Federal Scientific Centre of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Far East.
