Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing Inspects Sao San Tun Hospital in Taunggyi, Meets Health Staff

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, accompanied by his entourage, inspected San Sao Tun Hospital in Taunggyi, Shan State (South), and met with health staff. The Senior General comforted local people receiving medical treatment at the emergency ward, asked after their health conditions and comforted them with gifts of foodstuffs.

At the meeting hall of the hospital, the medical superintendent Dr. Win Maw Oo reported on process of providing cancer treatment, monthly medical treatment process, X-ray process, radiation treatment, and more requirements for providing cancer treatment. In his response, the Senior General highlighted the points as follows:

  • Necessary hospitals will be upgraded and extended among other hospitals in Shan State, depending on population of the hospital area. In doing so, the population of the people living in the area must be must be taken into consideration.
  • People need to be healthy. Only when they are healthy will they study and work. Efforts must be made for hospitals to be reliable for the people. Health staff members have systematic measures in relations and treatments for the patients. As hospital is a venue to provide healthcare services to the people, the facility must be clean and tidy.
  • Since health staff members are responsible for providing healthcare services to the people, it is necessary for them to wear uniforms properly. They have to improve themselves to attract reliance of patients. They have to give proper healthcare services to the people. Arrangements must be made for giving health food supplies to patients.
  • The government is fulfilling needs as much as possible to improve health sector. Staff must serve duty with loyalty to the State and they have to strive for catching reliance of the people. The Senior General inquired about the needs of the hospital and fulfilled it.

Sao San Tun Hospital was built through economic and expertise cooperation of the Soviet Union by Commander Brig-Gen Maung Lwin (BSc Engineering) of Rehabilitation Brigade No 1 in 1957. It aimed to ensure Russia-Myanmar friendly ties. Construction of all buildings cost Ks-4 million. In June 1961, the hospital was commissioned into service and it was only one general hospital in Shan State. Since its establishment, the hospital was the general hospital (200-bedded). On 16 December 2015, the hospital was upgraded to the general hospital (500-bedded), it is reported.
