Union Election Commission and Political Parties Hold a Meeting

A meeting between Union Election Commission (UEC) and registered political parties took place at the meeting hall of the commission office on 24 August. During the meeting, UEC Chair U Ko Ko discussed as follows:

  • The commission has been approving the application for political parties’ establishment and application under the Political Parties Registration Law. There have been 51 political parties among 67 parties, which have been approved as political parties until 24 August. At present, there are just 49 parties left as the right to registration of two parties were rejected.
  • The commission is required to conduct the activities in line with the law and by-laws which must be followed by the political parties, and fulfil the requirements of the political parties under the law.
  • Matters of electoral system, assistance of the State to ensure correct voter lists and measures being conducted to cast the votes by using ballot papers as well as MEVM were discussed.        

Afterward, the representatives from political parties made discussions and then, the UEC Chair explained the matters concerning the reports presented by the political parties. Attendees were UEC members, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, General Administration Department, Ministry of Immigration and Population, and UEC Office, chairpersons and leaders of 49 political parties, it is reported.
