Since 27 July, floods have occurred in Ayeyarwady Region due to heavy rain. Water passes over railroads in some locations of Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin rail segment in Kyaunggon, Kangyidaunt and Yaykyi Townships. Again, floods eroded main pole and approach of some bridges. Such conditions led to temporary suspension of train schedule. Accordingly, authorities arranged duty assignment to monitor the status flood level at the points where water passes over day and night. Myanma railways officials and workers have placed ballasts in the rail segment where the water ebb away, using RGC rail vehicles and checked the maintenance of rail tracks and bridges daily.
As of the measurement made on 19 August, the water level has been seen decreased. The 181st Up passenger train, which have stopped in Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin rail segment, will resume its train services to Kyangin from Pathein and the 182nd Down passenger train will resume its trip to Pathein from Hinthada as usual starting 21 August. Myanma Railways officials are putting an emphasis on improvement of rail tracks and infrastructure and the projects to get rail transport system upgraded, it is reported.
