Union Ministers separately Receive UN Resident Representatives for Myanmar

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Agriculture Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung, and Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing separately received Mr. Titon Mitra, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Myanmar, Ms. Sara Austin Netzer, Country Director and Representative of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Myanmar and Ms. Noriko Takagi, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Myanmar at the meeting halls of the respective ministries on 7 and 9 August.

  • During the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister U Than Swe and UNDP Resident Representative in Myanmar,   they discussed matters of existing cooperation programmes and further cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). During the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister U Than Swe and UNHCR’s representative for Myanmar, they exchanged views on matters related to UNHCR’s ongoing activities in Myanmar as well as ways and means for further cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and the UNHCR.
  • During the separate meetings between Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw and UNDP Resident Representative in Myanmar as well as UNOPS Country Director and Representative in Myanmar, they cordially discussed matters relating to the ongoing projects of UNDP and UNOPS and future work plans to be carried out in Myanmar.
  • During the meeting between Union Minister U Min Naung and UNOPS Director and Representative in Myanmar, they discussed implementation of future work in accordance with existing laws and regulations to support the agriculture and livestock sectors.
  • During the meeting between Union Minister U Myint Kyaing and UNHCR’s representative for Myanmar, they discussed the matters on the ongoing repatriation process for displaced persons from Rakhine state under the framework of Trilateral MoU among the Ministry, UNDP and UNHCR, facilitation of visa issues for UNHCR foreign staff, travel arrangements for local staff, providing assistance in the importing of materials from abroad to be used in the works of UNHCR.

Senior Officials from the relevant ministries, the permanent secretary, directors-general and departmental officials also attended the meetings, it is reported.
