Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “DVB TV News”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel and PNO members launched heavy weapon attacks on temporary IDP camps in Pin Laung Township to drive out them.  It is just a groundless rumor. In reality, the Tatmadaw members and departmental officials have provided necessary assistances including healthcare assistance to displaced persons.
  • “Peoples Spring”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that nine civilians including a pregnant woman were killed in the shell attack by security personnel. It is just an allegation. In reality, security forces are doing security duty in the township but they did not launch any shell attacks against the civilians.
  • “Narinjara”, an unofficial media source, has spread false information on social media platforms alleging that hundreds of Muslim youths fled to Bangladesh as Muslin youths in Maungdaw were called up for conducting military trainings. It is just a groundless rumour. In reality, local residents are opposing AA terrorists who launch attacks against non-military targets of towns and villages and abduct as well as kill the people. Unofficial subversive media are making propaganda to cover up the terrorist acts of AA terrorists, aiming the people to mislead over the authorities.
  • “Ayeyarwady Times”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms stating that the military and the award administration body in Kyangin asked money from the flood victims to provide cash assistance for People’s Military Servants. It is just propaganda. In reality, military personnel, police members, fire-brigade members and departmental personnel helped the flood victims living in lower-positioned wards of the town evacuate to safe places. The victims have been provided with foodstuffs and other supplies.
  • “RFA Burmese”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that female prisoners were beaten in Insein Prison.  It is just fabrication. In reality, the prison staff members repeatedly warned four female prisoners to go to bed as they were talking each other at the designed sleeping time at night. Of them, two prisoners responded rudely to the prison staff and so, those two prisoners were segregated from others. The prison staff members did not beat any female prisoners.
  • “Ayeyarwady Times”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that the Tatmadaw shelled Jate Taw ward of Ngapali, killing six people including three children. It is just an allegation.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, has spread false information on social media platforms alleging that the Tatmadaw launched air strikes against Kan Taung and New Yone villages of Singu Township even though there was no armed engagement, killing 13 people including two children. It is just a groundless rumour. In reality, there were no Tatmadaw flights over Singu Township. PDF terrorists shelled and launched drone attacks against security personnel doing security duty, hitting the said-villages that led to fatalities of local residents.
  •  “Peoples Spring”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that the Tatmadaw shelled Alae Gyor and o Yint villages, killing one civilian and injuring three others including two children. It is just an allegation. In reality, terrorists shelled and launched drone attacks against security forces, hitting local residents’ houses that led to fatalities of the civilians.
  • “Peoples Spring”, an unofficial media source, has spread rumours on social media platforms alleging that the Tatmadaw torched Mg Mae Shaung village located near Yangon-Dawei-Myeik Road. It is just fabrication. In reality, security personnel made security checks to prevent terrorists from hiding near the village.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
