Joint Statement of 27 Political Parties

The government has announced that they are preparing to hold a free and fair multiparty democratic general election in 2025. It is a firm decision of the State Administration Council to implement the five-point roadmap.

According to the current situation, the armed organizations, some armed groups that break NCA and the people residing in local and foreign countries and organizations who support them using various ways and means, including NUG/CRPH/PDF/ MNDAA/TNLA/AA that started attack, expanded their area of control and conducted operations aiming at deteriorating the stability of the county are the ones who break Our Three Main National Causes, and committing the following acts:

1. They detain, kidnap and kill monks, innocent civilians, government employees, teachers, students and children.
2. They destroy the state-owned and private buildings in various ways.
3. They attack using innocent civilians as human shields.
4. They launch attacks on big cities and wards/village tracts using heavy weapons/drones.
5. They arrest youths and make them participate in fights with arms by force.
6. They drive away other ethnic tribes who have been living in the same land for many years by force.
7. They intentionally break the 2008 Constitution and existing laws of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and international laws.

Such terrorist acts bring huge impacts to innocent people, like losses of employment and possessions, facing hardships in daily life, loss of learning opportunities, abandoning their native places, and loss of future hopes. Therefore, it seems to block the original rights of people, and they should be able to escape as quickly as possible.

We, political parties, strongly agree with the preparations for the 2025 multiparty general election made by the government on behalf of millions of people who oppose terrorism. The political parties will continue making political efforts to ensure the State’s stability and eliminate terrorist acts in the country.

Therefore, the message that the government is preparing to hold an election in 2025 is intended for the emergence of a public-elected democratic government. The representatives from 27 political parties released a joint statement that it is not an escape for defence and security organizations and we accept it as the best escape for all people, including political parties, it is reported.
