Union Ministers Receive Ambassador of India to Myanmar

Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing and Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine received H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, at their respective ministries in Nay Pyi Taw on 24 July.

  • During the call between Union Minister for Energy and Ambassador of India to Myanmar, they cordially discussed exchanged views on increasing cooperation in the energy sector between Myanmar and India, sending trainees to study oil exploration and production and oil refining techniques and conducting seminars related to the energy sector.
  • During the call between Union Minister for Immigration and Population and Ambassador of India to Myanmar, they frankly discussed on facilitating entry visas and residential permits for entry and exit of people between the two countries, the reopening of international border camps, especially the Tamu-Moreh border post, transfer of Indians without taking action as a sign of bilateral relations as per the lists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implementation of an e-ID system based on India’s Aadhaar system, immigration-related measures between Myanmar and India and further cooperation in the e-ID system.
  • During the call between Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and Ambassador of India to Myanmar, they cordially discussed public-private tourism promotion cooperation between the two countries, operating direct flights, promoting Myanmar’s destinations and tourist attractions through social media by recording tourism promotion videos, plans to invite individuals from India’s tourism industry to Myanmar for familiarization trips (FAM-Trip) and cooperation matters for the convenience of currency exchange for tourists.

Deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, managing directors and officials were also present at the meeting, it is reported.
