On 18th of July, the first bone marrow transplant was successfully performed at
Bone Marrow Transplant Unit under Hematology Department at the Yangon General Hospital.
Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win accompanied by the concerned officials met with the patients who successfully underwent the first bone marrow transplant, Daw San Aye, Age (58) from Maday Kyun Village, Kyaukphyu Township of Rakhine State and U Myint Aung, Age (58) from HteeSaung Village, Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region and gave encouragement, inquired about their health conditions and asked them what they needed. Currently, the health condition of the two patients is stable and they discharged from the hospital on 19th of July.
The Ministry of Health has successfully carried out the very first bone marrow transplant, a historical milestone for Myanmar’s Medical sector, due to the concerted efforts of the specialists and the timely support and fulfillment of needs. From now on, the patients in Myanmar can receive treatments within the nation without costing much and can attain the quality of life. It is reported.
