State Administration Council Member Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye Attends Ceremony to mark 77th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day

Member of the State Administration Council (SAC) Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye attended a ceremony to mark the 77th Anniversary of Martyrs’ Day for 2024 which was held at the Martyrs’ Mausoleum in Bahan Township of Yangon on 19 July.

During the event:

• SAC Member Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye and party cordially greeted the families of martyr leaders.
• SAC Member Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Maung Maung Aye together with SAC Members Mahn Nyein Maung and Dr. Hmu Thang, Chief Justice of the Union U Thar Htay, and Chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing the 77th Martyrs’ Day Ceremony Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Union Minister U Tin Oo Lwin, laid the wreath of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the Mausoleum in memory of General Aung San and martyr leaders to pay tributes to them.
• Meanwhile, the flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was lowered to half-mast while the Guard of Honour presented arms and the bugle troops sounded the last post and then, they observed a two-minute silence in remembrance of fallen martyr leaders.
• U Aung San Oo, the eldest son of the martyr leader General Aung San, family members of martyr leaders and representatives laid wreaths to pay tributes at the Mausoleum and shared merits.
• Then, the Yangon Region government, representatives from registered political parties based in Yangon, heads of missions of foreign embassies to Myanmar, charges d’affaires ai, and resident representatives of UN agencies also laid wreaths at the Mausoleum to pay tributes.
• Representatives from civil society organizations and associations laid wreaths at the Mausoleum in memory of General Aung San and martyr leaders to pay tributes to them.
• As an act in memory of gratitude of the martyr leaders, people including Buddhist monks and students paid tributes to martyrs queue following COVID-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Health.

The flag of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was hoisted at half-mast across the entire country, and MRTV sounded a siren in memory of the martyrs at 10:37 am when those martyrs fell. A large number of people visited the Martyrs’ Mausoleum, the Bogyoke Aung San Museum and the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office).
