The Central Committee on Implementation of Permanent Residency (PR) in Myanmar held a work coordination meeting to be able to scrutinize and grant PR to the applicants in line with the law and procedures at the meeting hall of Ministry for Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw on 18 July, attended by Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing, who is also Chairman of the central committee, central committee members and officials.
Chairman of the central committee addressed the followings points:
- There are four types of PR and the implementation was initiated on 29 January 2015. Until 30 January 2023, there is a total of 751 applicants and 699 were approved by the Central Committee. A total of 41 are remaining to have personal interviews, including 33 applicants and eight family members.
- This meeting will discuss the necessary reviews for 51 applicants including 37 applicants and 14 family members who completed the initial scrutinization of the working committee on 8 March.
Then, an in-charge on behalf of the central committee secretary clarified the biographies of 51 applicants, their scores, suggestions of the work committee and the work plans to be carried out after scrutinizing by the central committee.
Myanmar does not recognize the dual citizenship system. In order to achieve for the benefit of states and Myanmar nationals at abroad,, it is implementing four types of permits: professionals, businesspersons who want to invest in Myanmar, ex-Myanmar citizens who have obtained other citizenships and will contribute to Myanmar, and foreigners who are related by blood to Myanmar citizens, it is reported.
