The Ayeyawady River water level has risen due to heavy rainfall in Kachin State and Sagaing Region, causing floods in the wards and villages of Bhamo, Shwegu and Hkamti Townships. Under the circumstances the victims were provided assistance as follows:
- On 2 July, Tatmadaw personnel, police members, firefighters and departmental personnel made evacuation of victims to safe places: some 22,361 flood victims of 4,399 households in wards and villages of Bhamo Township, some 492 flood victims of 110 households in wards and villages of Shwegu Township and some 658 flood victims of 188 households in wards and villages of Hkamti Township and provided them with drinking water, foodstuffs and healthcare services and carried out relief and rescue tasks.
- On 4 July, SAC Member Daw Dwe Bu comforted flood victims and provided ten bags of rice for over 1,000 people of 187 households in Myitkyina. The SAC Member received K20 million, 400 bags of rice, 100 bottles of 10 viss cooking oil, 300 instant noodle packages and drinking water bottles donated by the Myitkyina Yunnan Buddhist Temple and Teinchong Hongxin Company and returned the certificate of appreciation to them.
- On 5 July, SAC Member, chief minister and officials visited flood relief camp set in Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha in Aung-Nan Ward and provided 5 rice bags, 10 instant noodle packages, one of canned fish, one bean bag and drinking water bottles for 156 people of 25 households flood victims.
- On 6 July, SAC Member and officials visited the flood relief camps set at the monastery in Myaymyint ward and at Sasana Yanthi monastery of Rampu ward in Myitkyina Township and provided foodstuffs, clothes, personal care items and coordinated requirements.
- On 7 July, Department of Disaster Management provided cash assistance MMK3,003,000 for 715 flood victims in the wards and villages of Shwegu Township. SAC Member Daw Dwe Bu accompanied by union minister for Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Kachin State chief minister and officials delivered supplies to the displaced persons camp at AG Church at 8th Mile in Naungnan. The relief supplies included unisex shirts, K9.43 million worth of 50 bags of rice, four packages of canned fish, 243 packages of instant noodles, 20 jerrycans of 10-viss cooking oil, purified drinking water bottles, and K27.689 million worth of supplies.
- Subsequently, she handed over K52.1934 million in financial aid provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement to the Kachin State Chief Minister for 12,427 displaced persons of 2,537 households who arrived at Myitkyina and Waingmaw Townships in May and June.
Furthermore, the SAC Member and party instructed officials to carry out Public Awareness and Public Education (PAPE) messages to help communities improve their knowledge of disaster risks and put in place measures to stay safe, it is reported.
