Clarifications made on the Response to the Outbreak of Diarrhoea in Some Townships of Yangon Region

Even though some patients with Diarrhoea have been hospitalized in some townships of Yangon Region starting 25 June 2024, central-level field working team under Public Health Department have collaborated with other officials and made efforts for prevention and control of disease. Currently, the outbreak of Diarrhoea has been controlled. On 4-6 July, number of hospitalized patients has increased. However, it was found that 63 people with Diarrhoea were hospitalized on 6 July and 44 people with Diarrhoea were hospitalized on 7 July respectively. So, new patients with Diarrhoea were in decline thanks to such efforts, according to disease monitoring statistics.

Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun made clarifications on the outbreak of Diarrhoea that the authorities checked Thae Kwin ward where squatters live, Ngwe Aye Ward, Dawbon Township, Yangon Region for disease on 3 July. He added that 12 persons with diarrhea were detected. Of them, nine people were hospitalized. He said it was found that 646 people are living in 166 houses but they have only 12 rooms of public toilet. Among the hospitalized patients with diarrhea, only a patient died not because of diarrhea but because of chronic HIV disease. It was announced that people need to: read the public notice and guidelines by Ministry of Health carefully; make precautions as well as prevention measures and follow them, it is reported.
