Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that security personnel killed two young people sellers for goods in Lwal Htae village of Hsihseng and they are collecting money 30,000 kyats per household in the villages of Lwal Maw Taung region. These are just groundless rumors. In reality, security personnel carry out regular security duty, and they did not make any arrest of innocent civilians as well as ask for any money from locals in the villages.
  • “Myay Latt A Than”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that authorities have asked the wards in Mandalay City to give the lists of 30 people for military service. It is just disinformation. In truth, authorities are working in accordance with the laws enacted, regarding People’s Military Service Law.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that a prisoner was beaten to death by the prison authorities in Mandalay Central Prison. It is just an allegation. In reality, the prisoner, who was in a state of mental confusion, cursed and punched the prison staff for no reason. He was knocked unconscious by a light pole, a concrete seat and a garbage can, and suffered a head injury. While being treated at the Mandalay General Hospital due to lack of consciousness, he died not because of the head injury but because of lung and cardiac arrest.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
