Statements by Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Myanmar Rice Federation against the UN Special Rapporteur’s Report

The UN Special Rapporteur's report on 26 June 2024 accused international banks, State-owned banks and some local private banks of facilitating some transactions that violate human rights in Myanmar and called for action.

In response to the UN report, the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Myanmar Rice Federation have issued the statements as follows:

• In response to the UN report, the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) released a statement describing that UMFCCI wants to urge international organizations not to affect the people and their socioeconomic status through the enormous impacts on businesses.
• The UN Special Rapporteur's report not only tends to batter the interests of the people of Myanmar but also hamper economic relations between Myanmar and foreign countries. Thus, the UMFCCI is concerned so much and it will continue to develop the State economy and socioeconomic lives of the people.
• In response to the UN report, Myanmar Rice Federation released a statement describing that propositions and attempts to take action against international banks that work with banks in Myanmar tend to affect the farming sector that most citizens rely on, as well as the food security and food production industries. International organizations should consider accurate on-ground situations, factual data, and practical undertakings and promote collaboration in constructive ways that aim to stabilize banking services.
