A Myanmar Delegation led by Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win Attends 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum (SCO) on Traditional Medicine

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the 2024 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine in Nanchang, China, on 26-28 June. He said the following points at the forum:

• It can promote the quality, efficiency, safety, reliability and usability of Traditional Medicine by investing in scientific research and using modern technologies.
• He believes that more cooperation can be achieved through innovations, mutual understanding and trust for the comprehensive development of the traditional medicine sector between the member countries, observer countries and the dialogue partner countries during the conference held today.
• On 27 June, delegation led by Union Minister visited a medicinal herb garden, a traditional medicine manufacturing plant, and Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province and also toured the Nanchang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where they observed the treatments involving Chinese traditional medicine using modern medical equipment such as acupuncture, heat therapy and massage therapy is used to treat adults and children and  he also visited the rehabilitation center to observe the treatment using modern equipment.
• On 28 June, the Union minister and party met with the chairperson of the traditional medicine administration body of Jiangxi Province to discuss collaboration for the development of traditional medicines in both countries. They also discussed arrangements for signing a memorandum of understanding between Myanmar’s Department of Traditional Medicine and Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as the establishment of a traditional medicine museum.

 Representatives from SCO member countries, observer countries and the dialogue partner countries, traditional healer’s experts of drug regulatory bodies and businessmen attended the conference. The Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister arrived back Yangon International Airport on 29 June by air, it is reported.
