Unofficial and Subversive Media Circulate Rumours and Fabrication on Social Media Platforms

Unofficial and subversive media have been creating and spreading rumours and fabricated news all round to create instability and unrest across the country; sowing discord between the Tatmadaw and the people, and using various ways to create a misleading impression over the Tatmadaw in the international arena. Under this context;    

  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, circulated rumors on social media platforms stating that the Tatmadaw and the PNO group are collecting 500,000 to 800,000 kyats per household in Hsihseng for their military expenditure. It is just a groundless rumor. In reality, the Tatmadaw and the PNO group have not collected such kind of money.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that security personnel torched Pyi Thar Aye village of Madaya Township. It is just fabrication. In truth, PDF terrorists positioning themselves in the houses of the village opened fired on security personnel and then retreated in disorder. After the battle, security forces has seized improvised mortars, improvised mines, IEDs and other explosives in the houses of the village.
  • “Khit Thit”, an unofficial media source, has posted misinformation on social media platforms accusing that security personnel shelled the villages in Singu Township, injuring some civilians. It is just disinformation. In truth, security personnel just shelled the gathering points of terrorists in the villages of the said-township, killing and fleeing some terrorists. No casualties of local residents were reported.

Since the enforcement of People’s Military Service Law, subversive media and those who do not wish to see peaceful situation are poisoning the entire populace with groundless information on social media platforms to feel frightened and hatred for security personnel and law enforcement organizations, reports say.
